Sasidharan memorial FIDE rated International Chess Tournament

Sasidharan memorial FIDE rated International Chess tournament was conducted from 2nd  to 6 th October at payyanur sbi city mall, in association with Payyanur Chess club.

250 FIDE rated candidates participated.  It went on for five days in nine rounds of tough intellectual battle.   Candidates from Goa Maharashtra Tamil nadu Karnataka and north India participated.

Inaugural ceremony was well attended.  District sub collecter Smt. Navjoth Kausa inaugurated.  D G Rtn MD Sridharan Nambiar was chief guest.  President Gangadharan Meledath, PDG Major Donor V G Nayanar and Assistant Governor Rtn Vinod  spoke on the occasion.

As a prelude,  District chess tournament and chess coaching camps were conducted before the main tournament.  The total budget was Rs 10,00,000.  prize money to of Rs 4,00,000 was awarded.

Closing ceremony was on 6th October.  Chief guest was Sri  T Padmanabhan, reputed writer.  He handed over the price to the winner Mr arun Kumar.  It was attended by AG Dr Vinod and large number of Rotarians of our club and neighbouring clubs and public.

Iftar Sangamam

Ifthar Sangaman was conducted at Ramanthali Yathimkana which has 46 inmates, all children and
their caretakers. Footwear was donated to all children. Function was inaugurated by Ramanthali Panchayath president. Chief orator of the program was Mr Mujeeb Rahman Saad. Foot wear distribution was done by Rtn Tejraj Mallar. Felicitation was done by AG Rtn Vinod.It was followed by prayer and fastbreak.

Doctors' Day

Four senior doctors of Payyanur were honoured on doctors Day.
1. Dr. KVB Nambiar
2. Dr. U.V. Shenoy
3. Dr. K. Gopinath
4. Dr. Sabitha Gopinath

President Rtn Gangadharan Meledath spoke about the great service these doctors have done for Payyanur and surroundings.  They shared their experiences in their practice. District Officials Rtn Prof Rajeevan, Rtn Dr Vinay Kumar, Rtn Upendra Shenoy were present.

Installation 2014

Rtn Gangadharan Meledath installed as president for the year 2014-15.

Swimming Coaching camp

One month Swimming Coaching camp was inaugurated on 3/7/2014 by Panchayath President. Edanad L.P. School Principal, Assistant Governor Rtn Dr Vinod offered felicitation.

Coaching instructors were
1. Mr. Padmanabhan, past international swimmer
2. Mr. Laxmanan.

60 children attended the camp daily for month, in three batches. All children learned to swim in different styles under their expert coaching. Test was conducted on the concluding day. Closing ceremony was conducted on 26/7/14. Rtn Dr Vinod, assistant Governor was the chief guest. Certificate distribution was done by AG. Felicitation was given by Mrs Ushadevi, Edanand school principal, and parents. District Officials  Assistant Governer - Rtn Vinod, Rtn Upendra Shenoy, Rtn Dr Prashant, Rtn Rajeevan, Rtn Pramod honoured the function.

Onam Celebration 2014

Onam was celebrated in a grand way with family and invited guests. Past district Governor MD Rtn Ummer was the chief guest. Visiting dignitaries from othre clubs were AG Rtn Dr Vinod Rtn Santhosh, Rtn Dinesh, GPC Rtn Chandran, Rtn Bhaskara Poduval president of Payyanur main club and secretary
Rtn Chandran. Club bulletin was released. PHF pin was given to Rtn Rajesh and Rtn Prof Rajeevan. Cultural programmes were performed by anns and annets. Thiruvathira was performed by Anns. Food and fellowship followed the programme.

Nation Builder award was given to Sree Gangadharan master. He is a malayalam teacher who has done extensive work to teach astronomy to children, established a planetarium in Payyanur, and conducted camps in all parts of Kerala for the purpose.
